Zoya Akhtar's 'Gully Boy' Won The NETPAC Award In South Korea
Zoya Akhtar's 'Gully Boy' has won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea. NETPAC juries select the film as the best Asian Film from World Fantastic Blue section, which features new and uncommon genres. Zoya Akhtar has recently joined as a new member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The team is responsible for arranging the annual Oscar awards.
Zoya Akhtar is an famous Indian film director and screenwriter and also daughter of renowned poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar. 'Gully Boy' is the sixth film of her. Zoya directed films like 'Luck By Chance (2009)', 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)' which won Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director and Best Director respectively.
'Gully Boy' features stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The film projects the journey of Murad Ahmed (Ranveer Singh) who lives in the Dharavi slums of Mumbai. To follow his passion as rapper he encounters numerous struggles and at last wins a contest against all those big rappers. Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma play important roles in the film.
